Company Overview

Food, Reinvented

Solar Foods was founded in 2017 by researchers from VTT and LUT University in Finland. The company has developed Solein® — a complete protein with the nutritional profile of meat or soy, produced through a process that needs only air, water, and renewable electricity.

From its Factory 01 in Vantaa, Solar Foods is redefining what food can be in a world facing climate, land, and water constraints.

How It Works

Protein from Thin Air

A revolutionary bioprocess converting CO₂ and renewable electricity into nutrient-rich Solein®.

01

Capture CO₂

Carbon dioxide from the air is captured as a key carbon source.

02

Renewable Power

100% renewable electricity splits water into hydrogen and oxygen.

03

Microbial Fermentation

Microbes feed on hydrogen and CO₂ to grow Solein® biomass.

04

Sustainable Protein

Dried, neutral-tasting yellow powder ready for any food application.

Environmental Impact

A Revolution in Food Sustainability
